Ten habits that protect you
Technology Trends
- Use strong, different passwords. Use a long phrase for each important account, and consider a password manager.
- Turn on two-step verification. It means a stolen password alone is not enough.
- Never share your OTP, PIN or CVV. Not with a friend, and not with a “bank officer”.
- Think before you click. Check who sent the message and where the link really goes.
- Limit app permissions. Does a game need your contacts, camera or microphone? If not, switch it off.
- Review your privacy settings. Do it on every social media account, and opt out of ad tracking where the platform allows it.
- Be careful on public Wi-Fi. Avoid banking and password logins on open networks.
- Keep your phone and apps updated. Updates fix known security problems.
- Deal with cyber bullying calmly. Do not reply. Take screenshots, block and report the account, and tell a trusted adult or teacher.
- Pause before you post. Photos, locations and personal details are hard to remove once shared.
